Medication for Opioid Use Disorder

What is the problem?

In 2022, Kentucky reported 2,135 fatal overdoses due to opioids.

Why is it important?

There are medications available that reduce opioid withdrawal and block the effects of self-administered illicit opioids.

What is the solution?

Long-term use of medication for opioid use disorder is associated with improved outcomes and discontinuation often leads to individuals relapsing. Kentucky should amend legislation to be consistent with federal guidelines regarding take home doses once a patient is stable.
